DEMONSTRATE: Shine Your Light
Preached to: Middle & High School Students
Speaker: Pastor Amanda Hahn
Have you ever tried to walk through a dark room without a flashlight?
You bump into things, stub your toe, and move slow because you can’t see what’s ahead. But as soon as you turn on even the smallest light — everything changes. You see clearly, move confidently, and feel safer.
That’s what Jesus meant when He said, “You are the light of the world.”
Light doesn’t have to try to shine — it just does. When Jesus lives inside of us, His light naturally shines through our words, actions, and attitudes.
At Amplify Youth, we challenged students this week to shine their light in three specific ways:
❤️ Through Love – Choose kindness. Forgive quickly. Encourage someone who’s been overlooked. Love is one of the clearest ways people see Jesus in us.
🙌 Through Service – Be willing to help, volunteer, or lend a hand without expecting anything in return. Jesus said our good deeds bring glory to God, not to ourselves.
💯 Through Integrity – Be the same person in private as you are in public. Living honestly and consistently shows that your faith is genuine.
We also launched the “Take One, Share One” challenge — inviting every student to take two bracelets: one to wear and one to give away. It’s a simple but powerful reminder that the light of Jesus is meant to be shared. Each bracelet given represents an opportunity to bring encouragement, hope, and truth to someone who needs it.
Let’s be students who don’t just believe in God— we demonstrate Him through the way we live.
Keep up with all that’s going on at Amplify Youth, including dates, times, sign-ups, and forms, on our main page.

🌟 Night 1: Be the Light
Verse: Matthew 5:14–16 — “You are the light of the world… let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
Thought:
Jesus doesn’t say you might be the light — He says you are the light. That means wherever you go — school, home, or sports — your actions and attitude show others who God is. The world needs people willing to shine His love instead of hiding it.Questions to Discuss:
Where do you think God wants you to “shine” this week?
What makes it hard to stand out for your faith sometimes?
How can we encourage each other as a family to be light in our community?
Family Challenge:
Each person share one way they’ll intentionally “shine” this week — then check in on it tomorrow night.❤️ Night 2: Love Out Loud
Verse: John 13:35 — “Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”
Thought:
Love isn’t just words — it’s action. When we choose kindness, forgive someone, or show compassion, we reflect Jesus. Sometimes the smallest act of love — a smile, a text, or an encouraging word — can make the biggest impact.Questions to Discuss:
What’s one way someone has shown love to you recently?
How can you show love to someone who might not expect it?
Why do you think love is one of the best ways to shine for Jesus?
Family Challenge:
Think of one person outside your home who might need encouragement — and find a way to show them love tomorrow (text, note, gift, prayer, etc.).💯 Night 3: Be Real, Stay Bright
Verse: Proverbs 10:9 — “People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed.”
Thought:
Integrity means being the same person when no one’s looking as you are when everyone’s watching. Real light doesn’t flicker — it stays steady. When you live with honesty, humility, and consistency, people see something different — and that “something” is Jesus shining through you.Questions to Discuss:
What does “integrity” look like for you at school or work?
Why do you think people trust others who are consistent and real?
How can we help each other stay true to who we are in Christ?
Family Challenge:
Pray together tonight and ask God to help your family live with integrity — to shine bright at home, school, and everywhere you go. -
INTRO – Light Always Stands Out
Have you ever tried walking through a dark room without a light?
Light doesn’t try to shine — it just does.
Jesus said: “You are the light of the world” Matthew 5:14.
You weren’t made to blend in — you were made to stand out for God’s glory.
1️⃣ Shine Through Love
Love is the first way people see Jesus in us.
Simple acts of kindness can open doors for faith conversations.
“Take One, Share One” Challenge:
Take 2 bracelets — one to wear, one to give away.
Look for someone who needs encouragement or hope.
Love is light in action.
2️⃣ Shine Through Service
Matthew 5:16 — “Let your good deeds shine out for all to see…”
Serving points people to Jesus, not ourselves.
Every small act of service — holding a door, helping clean up, praying for someone — shines light into dark places.
When you serve, people see Jesus.
3️⃣ Shine Through Integrity
Integrity = being the same person in private as in public.
Light shouldn’t flicker on and off depending on who’s watching.
God honors consistency and truth.
Integrity keeps your light bright.
⚡ Demonstration Challenge
“Take One, Share One” — one to wear, one to give away.
“Light the School” — invite 3 friends to youth next week.
Post your shine story next week: Who did you share with, and why?
🌟 CALL TO SALVATION – Invite the Light In
Before we can shine the light, we need to receive the Light.
John 8:12 (NLT) — “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’”
Invited students to open their hearts to Jesus — to let His light fill the dark and lead them into life.
Salvation moment: “If you want to walk in the light, not the dark — tonight’s your chance. Ask Jesus to forgive your sins and be the Light that leads your life.”
💬 Closing Thought
Light doesn’t compete — it combines.
When we all shine together, darkness doesn’t stand a chance.
Let your love, service, and integrity point others to Jesus.

Matthew 5:14–16 (NLT)
“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”John 8:12 (NLT)
“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’”
