DEMONSTRATE: Faith In Action

Preached to: Middle & High School Students

Speaker: Pastor Amanda Hahn

đź’ Faith That Moves

James reminds us that faith isn’t just something we say — it’s something we live.

“Faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.” – James 2:17 (NLT)

If our faith doesn’t move us to act, it’s not alive. Real faith shows up in how we love, give, and serve.

⚙️ Faith in Action = Generosity in Motion

One way we’re demonstrating faith this month is through Speed the Light (STL). Pastor Joe’s October goal is $200,000 for missions. If every student gives $20, Amplify Youth alone could give $800! Your giving helps missionaries share Jesus around the world — that’s faith in motion.

đź’ˇ Faith That Shines

Our actions are how people see Jesus in us.

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16

Every kind word, every act of love, every time we serve — it reflects God’s light to the world.

❤️ Faith Starts Small

Students were challenged to complete a Random Act of Kindness this week — something simple but powerful like praying for a friend, helping a teacher, or inviting someone to Amplify. Small steps of faith can make a big difference!

🔥 Your Challenge This Week

âś… Give $20 to Speed the Light
âś… Complete your Random Act of Kindness
âś… Invite one friend to Amplify next week

Faith that talks stays still.
Faith that acts makes a difference.

Let’s be students who don’t just believe in God— we demonstrate Him through the way we live.

Keep up with all that’s going on at Amplify Youth, including dates, times, sign-ups, and forms, on our main page.

Amplify Main Page

  • 🕊️ Night 1 – Faith That Moves

Scripture: James 2:17 — “Faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.”

    Conversation Starter:

    • What does it mean to have a faith that moves instead of a faith that just talks?

    • Can you think of a time when you saw someone’s actions show what they believed?

    Family Challenge:
Each person share one way they can live out their faith tomorrow — at work, at school, or in the neighborhood.
(Example: encouraging someone, helping with chores without being asked, praying for a friend.)

    💸 Night 2 – Faith Gives

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:7 — “God loves a cheerful giver.”

    Conversation Starter:

    • Why do you think God cares about our attitude when we give?

    • How does giving to something like Speed the Light show our faith in action?

    Family Challenge:
Talk about ways your family can give together this week — maybe each person gives toward the $20 STL challenge, or you choose another cause to bless.
Pray together for the missionaries your giving helps support.

    💬 Night 3 – Faith Shows Kindness

Scripture: Galatians 6:9–10 — “Let us not grow weary in doing good… as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people.”

    Conversation Starter:

    • Why do you think kindness can make such a big difference?

    • Who’s someone you could show kindness to this week?

    Family Challenge:
Each family member draw a “Random Act of Kindness” idea (make your own cards or use your teen’s from youth group).
Share your stories at dinner later this week about how it went!

  • INTRO – “Prove It!”

    • Ask: “Have you ever known someone who talks big but never proves it?”

    • Connect to faith: James says faith that doesn’t produce action is incomplete.

    • James 2:17: “Faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.”

    • Big idea: Real faith moves — it changes how we live, love, give, and serve.

⚙️ POINT 1: Faith That’s Real Is Faith That’s Active

    • Faith that’s real will always move you to action.

    • Illustration: Faith is like electricity — you can’t see it, but you can see what it powers.

    • A faith that never moves isn’t connected to the source.

    • Apply: When we’re connected to Jesus, His power flows through us in love, service, and generosity.

    • STL Challenge:

      • Pastor Joe’s goal: $200,000 in October.

      • If every student gives $20, Amplify Youth contributes $800!

      • “Faith in action = generosity in motion.”

      • Giving shows our faith is active and that we trust God with our resources.

đź’ˇ POINT 2: Faith in Action Shows the World Who Jesus Is

    • When we live out our faith, people see Jesus in us.

    • Matthew 5:16: “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

    • Your kindness, integrity, and love are a reflection of Jesus to the world.

    • Transition: Next week’s message — “Shine Your Light” — will dive deeper into how our faith glows through what we do.

❤️ POINT 3: Faith in Action Starts Small but Makes a Big Difference

    • You don’t need a microphone, spotlight, or platform — just obedience.

    • Every small act of kindness can make a big impact.

    • Examples:

      • Encouraging someone

      • Praying for a friend

      • Helping a teacher

      • Inviting someone to Amplify

      • Giving $5–$20 toward STL

    • Challenge Activity:

      • Draw a Random Act of Kindness card tonight.

      • Complete it this week.

      • Share your story on the Faith in Action Wall next Wednesday.

    • “You might be the only Jesus someone sees this week.”

🙏 ALTAR CALL / WORSHIP TRANSITION

    • Ask: “Is your faith just words — or is it alive?”

    • Faith that talks stays still; faith that acts makes a difference.

    • Invite students to respond:

      • Pray for courage to put faith into motion.

      • Ask God to show one way to demonstrate faith this week.

  • James 2:14–18 (NLT)

14 What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?
15 Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing,
16 and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?
17 So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.
18 Now someone may argue, “Some people have faith; others have good deeds.” But I say, “How can you show me your faith if you don’t have good deeds? I will show you my faith by my good deeds.”

    Matthew 5:14–16 (NLT)

14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.”
